What I Teach (and Why It Works)
I teach the thinking habits and academic skills that truly stick—so students don’t just improve their grades… they grow into confident, capable learners.
For Grades 5-6, my approach focuses on deep understanding, flexible thinking, and clear communication—the core abilities that help kids succeed in every subject and feel good about how they learn.

We go beyond memorization to build real reasoning. Students learn to:
-
Break apart word problems and choose the right strategy
-
Tackle all operations with clarity and structure
-
Begin early algebra with confidence and logical thinking
-
Explain their thinking out loud and double-check their work independently
About Me

Hi, I’m Jason—founder of Reroute Learning, veteran educator, and the one who’ll be working directly with your child every step of the way.
Since 2004, I’ve taught and coached over 450 students in math and writing—many of them bright, capable kids who just needed more time, clarity, or the right kind of support to thrive. I hold a Master’s in Education from Texas State University, and I’ve spent over 20 years helping learners feel confident, capable, and proud of how they think.
I started Reroute Learning because I saw too many kids fall through the cracks—overwhelmed by fast-paced classrooms or mismatched with one-size-fits-all tutoring. Here, every session is calm, thoughtful, and built around how your child learns best.
We take what feels confusing, break it into clear steps, and practice with care—until things start to click and your child feels ready, not rushed.
When I’m not teaching, I’m a working musician and a lifelong learning nerd. I love helping people get good at difficult things—and with the right support, your child absolutely can too.

Jason is an engaging and patient teacher for my 10 year old. He breaks math down into digestible pieces and keeps it fun. My son looks forward to meeting with him because “he’s really cool"

“Jason has tutored both of my children, and he is a gem! He worked with my oldest who is neurodiverse with a great deal of patience, tenacity, and humor. He began tutoring my 6th grader this year who was struggling with math skills, and she’s finishing the semester with a 98 in math.
